Privacy Policy

1. What we collect
When you join our waitlist, we collect your email address only.
When you use the Scrown app, we collect:
- The URLs, text notes, and content items you choose to save
- Basic device information (OS version, device type) for debugging
- App usage data (e.g. items marked done) to improve the product
We do not collect precise location data or contacts. Our advertising partner, Google AdMob, may separately collect approximate location and device identifiers to serve ads in the mobile app — see Section 6.
2. How we use your data
Your data is used strictly to provide the Scrown service:
- Storing and displaying your saved items in your personal feed
- Sending you a launch notification when the app is ready (waitlist only)
- Diagnosing bugs and improving app stability
Beyond the in-app advertising described in Section 6, we do not use your data for profiling or any other purpose.
3. What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to any third party
- We do not use your saved content to train AI models
- We do not share your email with advertisers
- Other than Google AdMob, which serves ads in the mobile app (see Section 6), we do not use third-party tracking SDKs (no Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, etc.)
4. Data retention & deletion
Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. If you would like your data deleted, email us at hello@scrown.app and we will delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Waitlist emails are deleted immediately upon request.
5. Third-party services
Scrown uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Amazon RDS (AWS) — database hosting for your saved items and account data. Data is stored in the US.
- Resend — transactional email delivery for waitlist notifications. Only your email address is shared.
- Google AdMob — serves ads within the mobile app. See Section 6 for what AdMob collects and your consent choices.
Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for them to function.
6. Advertising & your consent choices
The Scrown mobile app uses Google AdMobto serve ads. To do this, AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as your advertising ID), approximate location, and app usage data. By default, ads are non-personalized; where you have given consent, AdMob may also serve personalized ads. Google acts as an independent ad technology partner for this purpose — see Google's ad partner disclosure for details on how Google and its partners handle this data.
If you're located in the EEA, UK, or California, we show a consent form (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform) the first time you open the app from one of these regions. This lets you choose whether to allow personalized ads or see only non-personalized ads. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from the privacy/consent settings in the app.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security practices: encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls on our database. No system is 100% secure, but we take your data seriously and will notify you promptly of any breach that affects you.
8. Children
Scrown is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have done so, contact us to have it removed.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify waitlist members by email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects when changes were last made.
